Biscayne Bay Waterkeeper’s SPLASH Miami event was a huge success!
Over the weekend, the community rallied together at the Biscayne Nature Center to celebrate swimmable water in Biscayne Bay. Kids and adults alike created works of art inspired by nature, learned about the critters of the sea, and went on a discovery walk through the area’s vast nature trails.
With the launch of Swim Guide in Miami in 2011, Biscayne Bay Waterkeeper has been tracking beach water quality in the area to inform citizens about bacterial contamination at 50 Miami-area beaches. SPLASH participants had an excellent opportunity to see what Miami beaches have to offer – and why they are so important to protect.
Unsurprisingly, beaches in the Biscayne Bay area are amazing. With destinations like South Beach, Crandon Park North, and Virginia Key, tourists and locals flock to the beaches year-round. You’ll find light sandy beaches and turquoise water throughout the Miami area.
These beaches aren’t just for swimming, of course. Paddle boarders and kite boarders were out all weekend enjoying the surf, while sand castle builders, beach volleyballers, and picnickers enjoyed the turf.
Did you miss the event? You can still explore the beach at Crandon Park by Biscayne Bay Nature Center! Visit Crandon Park-North on Swim Guide for directions.
