We are happy to announce that Anne Arundel Community College has joined Swim Guide’s affiliate program. This is the first educational institution to come on board.

AACC’s Environmental Center monitors river water quality at popular bathing sites and marinas along Maryland’s Back Creek and Rock Creek. The Environmental Center’s monitoring program is part of a larger initiative called “Operation Clearwater

Dr. Tammy Domanski, of the AACC Biology Department and Environmental Center, is the scientific director of the monitoring program. Bacterial monitoring at the Environmental Center was started in 1974 in collaboration with the Severn River Association.

Water samples at waterfront sites are collected by staff and students from the Environmental Center weekly or bi-weekly. The Environmental Center also processes all samples, including enumeration of microorganisms associated with poor microbial water quality.

Considering how popular swimming is in Maryland the AACC’s monitoring data is very valuable. The programs runs from May through September.

Thanks for joining us AACC!
