About Rockford Road
Rockford Road has a low-water bridge across the Cacapon River. This is a good site for cooling your feet, relaxing in the shade, or taking a swim. There is a shallow (half-foot) channel in the shade. The main channel is more than fifty feet across and >six feet deep. Good swimers can manage the currents during the summer , in high water, it is too fast. This is an informal access to the river across WV Division of Highway's property. There is no designated trail, amenities, or life guard. All the land is private except for the road and river.
No parking. Please, never leave a vehicle unattended at the bridge crossing (emergency vehicles will push a parked car out of the way and off the road).
The site is also good for a kayak/canoe takeout. Do NOT put-in because, downstream, is a hazardous abandoned leaking dam.
