Chryssi Akti Panagias (The Golden Beach of Holy Mary) beach is situated at the north coast of Pagasitikos bay and is 14 km southwest from Volos city.
The beach is awarded the Blue Flag, the most recognizable international eco-label for coastlines.
Chryssi Akti Panagias beach is sandy combined with pebbles, with a coastline of 800m long.
The vegetation at Chryssi Akti Panagias beach is tamarisks and olive and pine trees. Coastal marine biodiversity includes green algae on the rocks and brown seaweed, echinoderms, gastropods, shells and limpets.
Chryssi Akti Panagias beach is well organized and provides free of charge deck chairs, sun umbrellas, cabins, showers, trash- recycling cans, lifequard responsible for equipment and pharmacy, as well as infrastructure for access, parking and WC for disabled people.
Swimming is the main activity on the coast; there is also a mooring site for small boats.
At Chryssi Akti Panagias there are cafes, restaurants and tsipouradika (tsipouro taverns).
At the area around, one can visit the town of Nea Achialos, with hotels, rooms to let and restaurants; the archaeological sites of Pirasos and Fthiotides Thives are within driving distance.
Visitors can reach Chryssi Akti Panagias by car or public transport (intercity bus), as the road along the beach is parallel to the country road of Mikrothives – Volos.
