Sample on August 22, 2016 had elevated E. coli but not at level to cause closure - RATED CAUTION AFTER RAINFALL FOR NOW.
This site has moderate to heavy use by people from the surrounding area for swimming and fishing. The canoe livery that was at this site has closed but this stretch of the West Fork of the Choctawhatchee is utilized by folks from all across SE Alabama and beyond for [paddling when there is sufficient water. There is a small "waterfall" about 1/2 mile upstream. From that waterfall upstream to the mouth of Judy Creek is not classified for swimming because of a small wastewater discharge at the mouth of Judy Creek.
Choctawhatchee Riverkeeper has never collected a sample at this site which had E. coli high enough to create a concern. Historical data for this site is available on the Alabama Water Watch website http://www.alabamawaterwatch.org/ under Site Code 04007020.
Testing will be done again a few days before Independence Day and a few days before Labor Day.
