Huntington Harbour - Seagate Lagoon

Huntington Beach, California
Administrado por Orange County Coastkeeper

Info from "The Five: Stories that make Huntington Beach unique", OC Register, 3-6-2013. "While not exactly Niagara Falls, Huntington Harbour is home to a small and mostly unknown waterfall at its north end along Edinger Avenue.

The waterfall was created as an aeration tool to keep water from stagnating in the two lagoons built along the backsides of homes in the harbor's private Seagate community. A large pump takes water from the harbor and pushes it up to the top lagoon, which travels down to the second lagoon, and then flows back into the main harbor channels through a discharge pipe.

The lagoons in Seagate are landlocked, so homeowners still use kayaks and pedal boats to cruise around the small water areas. Just to the east of the lagoons is Seagate Yacht Club, which has been in operation since 1976. Originally open only to Seagate dwellers, the club is now open to the public and meets regularly at the Seagate community clubhouse.

The falls can be seen from the bridge between the two lagoons on Bimini Lane, just off Edinger."
