The beach is situated on 300m of sand coast and offers sunbeds, umbrellas, changing cabins and a lifeguard to its visitors. It supports since 1992 the society for the sea turtles Caretta-Caretta and offers a clean and safe environment for them and their nests. Furthermore it is called ''home'' for many turtles as they return to the same beach for the last 30 years to lay their eggs. Several sea turtles have been released throughout the years and offerd a spectacular but also environmental consciousness to all its visiors.
The rare and protected sea daffodil (also known as white sand lily) grows in several places on the beach and is considered as one of the wildflowers of Crete. Just in a 40 minutes’ walk from the beach, Rethymnon old harbor can be reached. In 2018 the beach celebrates the 20th consecutive year to have been awarded with the Blue Flag.
