Ferragudo

Praia Grande is located in the headwaters of the final section of the estuary of the river Arade. The areal form a band with little more than 760m and 130m at its greatest width. Pedestrian access is by a staircase that overcomes a difference of dimensions of approximately 30m. On the beach there are several restaurants and concessions of awnings and other equipment. The Municipality keeps on the beach, a children's playground and sports areas. The Junta de Freguesia manages showers and toilets at the entrance to the beach.

Limit the Praia Grande, to the south, the water source of Barra do rio; to this the areal is framed by cliffs that reach 30 m in height, with ridges lined by a vigorous Mediterranean vegetation, where you can see some villas overlooking the beach. To the north, stands the Forte de S. João do Arade, structure which, in conjunction with the Fortaleza de Santa Catarina, guarantee the protection of the estuary before the onslaught of piracy.

Not far away, a little further upstream, it is possible to see the urban nucleus of the village of Ferragudo.
