Gondarém

The emblematic “Pérgola da Foz”, the quiet gardens of Avenue of Brazil and the picturesque façades of bourgeois houses frame the bathing area of Gondarém. It is a wonderful place for those who enjoy a walk by the sea: at the hour of sunset, the sun over the sea and the reddish sky create a unique scene, full of nostalgia and charm. This tradition dates back to the early years of the nineteenth century when the cream of society of Porto walked along the large belvedere, coming together at beach huts and bathing in its waters.
Consisting of two beaches (Molhe and Gondarém), this bathing area extends from the monumental breakwater that encloses and protects it, known as Molhe (Pier), on the north side, to a thin strip of sand where two arches of maritime abrasion stand out. The beauty of the rocky area that can be seen between tides also gives a distinctive feature to the landscape. This is a sheltered and safe area for relaxing and swimming, served by modern supporting equipment, good road access, public transport, car park and bike park.
