Access is by sea from the pier of Cais da Porta Nova (Portas do Mar), and the crossing can be seen in the small maze of muddy tidal sand banks of canals and marshes. Along the way we must also pay attention to the many birds that feed here.
Praia da Barreta is one of the best preserved and least crowded beaches in the Algarve. About 11 km of silence and tranquility characterize the Desert Island, where everything seems to fit perfectly between worlds as diverse as land, sea and air. The sand breath of life, feeding many species of shellfish: clams, whelks and many other shells. The dunes has preserved its original vegetation and flora found its maximum splendor hiding on the slope within the fragile species. Here the fauna is also protected and may be observed sandpipers, terns, terns, terns or Chiretas.
At arrival you can choose to make an environmental route. This route is circular, begins in a wooden walkway (on the side of Ria) and ends at a sandy beach (the side of the Coast). Here you can admire the flora and fauna exist.
In sandy, west of where it empties into the bridge, was approved by the City of Faro to create an area for the practice of naturism.
Rare sanctuary, the Desert Island invites tranquility and relaxation.
