In 2017, Public Health Units with Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA) beaches in their jurisdiction, in consultation with the conservation authority, reviewed the GRCA beach management program and made the decision to discontinue water quality testing by public health units at GRCA beaches. These beaches are located within three health units in Waterloo Region, Brant County and Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph. GRCA will continue sampling every two weeks in the months from June to August and post results, along with the amount of rain fallen, on the GRCA website (https://apps.grandriver.ca/beachconditions/public/beachconditions.aspx). Swim Guide checks this website whenever sample information is updated during the swimming season. In Swim Guide, a beach is marked Green when the geometric mean of at least 5 samples is below 200 E.coli / 100 mL water and each individual sample concentration is below 400 E.coli / 100mL. A beach is marked Red when the results are equal to or above a geometric mean of 200 E.coli / 100 mL water and/or 400 E.coli / 100 mL. A beach is marked Grey when there are no current results or there is no available information.
