Platanidia beach is located at the seaside village of Platanidia, 13 km southeast of Volos. Platanidia beach is a harbor of the village of Ano Lechonia, Pelion mountain and is about 1 km from the village.
It is characterized as "Skala", a berth from the old days.
Platanidia beach, which has been awarded the Blue Flag, is pebbled with clear waters, a mooring spot for small boats and a parking lot in the northwest.
It provides free umbrellas, showers, cabins, waste and recycling bins and a lifeguard responsible for life-saving supplies and a pharmacy.
Today Platanidia is a vacation resort with great residential development, country houses, fish taverns, cafes, guesthouses and rooms to let on the beach.
There is free access to public by a country road and public transport (bus no. 5).
The Platanidia coastline is encircled by the coastal road and close to it there is a sparse settlement with permanent and holiday residences, olive groves and crops. In the lowland of the area thrive olive trees, pear trees and other fruit trees.
At Platanidia beach there are remains of Early Christian temples with mosaic floors.
From Platanidia beach, the visitor can reach the picturesque village of Ano Lechonia in a few minutes and wander the cobblestone streets admiring the Pelion mansions and the beautiful churches.
At the entrance of the village of Ano Lechonia there is the station where the traditional “Little train of Pelion” begins, which, in a magical 90-minute ride amidst lush vegetation, reaches the traditional village of Milies, where one can admire the picturesque cobblestone streets, the traditional guesthouses, the folklore museum.
Within walking distance of Platanidia beach one can visit the Anetopoulos Museum of Pottery & Ceramics with artworks from 1790 until today.
