Calhetas da Maia

Located in the parish of Maia, municipality of Ribeira Grande, it is a pleasant place made up of an extensive beach and some rock formations, with special emphasis on the corals that are visible to the naked eye when the tide is low and the swell is small, providing a view of its crystalline waters.Access to this location was built in the winter of 1983, significantly improving the comfort of those who wanted to bathe there. It was a work carried out using local labor, especially fishermen who committed themselves to its improvement, supported by the Parish Council of Maia, chaired at the time by Afonso Quental.It is a quiet area, easily accessible on foot, which provides moments of well-being in contact with nature. Around it there are picnic areas where barbecues or family picnics can be held.
