Praia de Faro ("Faro-Mar") is located on the peninsula Ancão - extension of beach that extends for several miles, separating the lagoon system of the Atlantic Ocean. In the Natural Park of Ria Formosa, this zone is characterized by a line of sand dunes, formed by sandy peninsulas and islands that protect a vast area of marshland, canals and small islands. The diversity of existing flora and fauna is one of the notable aspects.
It is a beach frequented by thousands of bathers, attracted by the natural beauty, temperate waters and sun.
Access to Praia de Faro is via a bridge, where traffic can travel by boat or car. The river begin careers in Faro in Cais da Porta Nova (Portas do Mar).
There is a major occupation in this beach town planning and an intense tourist activity during the summer. However, in the extreme east and west of the beach resort's buildings are replaced by the picturesque houses of fishermen and shellfish gatherers, and the dunes and the marsh will dominate the landscape.
There are many sporting activities that take place on this beach all year round, and the Nautical Center of the City Council takes a strategic role in promoting canoeing, sailing and windsurfing and the promotion of activities undertaken by businesses operating in the field of tourism activities. During the summer time, city council this installation also includes the Centro Azul da Praia de Faro (center of interpretation and environmental education in the county of Blue Flag).
In this beach there are some restaurants where they can be considered the typical dishes of the area and wide variety of seafood. Try the "Rice Razor", a Algarve typical dish.
The lifeguard service is provided on six beach stations. Three of these jobs are handled by the beach Faro Municipal Council and the remainder are integrated into three existing bathing aids. For this beach is also awarded the concession to operate a recreational support.
This beach is officially classified as a reward "Accessible Beach". The Faro Municipal Council provides this beach in the area of the campsite, a chair designed to facilitate access to bathrooms for people with reduced mobility, access ramps and walkways to the beach, toilets and first aid station accessible parking and sorted places for vehicles serving people with disabilities.
Praia da Barrinha – Barra de S. Luís
Praia da Barrinha is located east of the end of Península do Ancão. It is a very quiet and often deserted which can be accessed on foot from the Praia de Faro, in a long wooden walkway, or boat. This beach has no buildings roads or infrastructure.
Throughout the system configuration of coast lines and laugh constantly change by the action of wind and waves. This is a privileged place where we can observe the flora of the dune systems and the numerous birds that seek refuge and food in these parts.
Due to the natural and the existing practice of barra activities such as shellfish, fishing, birdwatching, hiking, sailing, canoeing, windsurfing, surfing, kite surfing, bodyboarding and paddleboard is a constant throughout the years.
