Baía do Refugo

The scrap Bay is a bay located on the south coast of Terceira Island, in the parish of Porto Jew, in the municipality of Angra do Heroísmo.

It is a coastal bathing area whose geological formation had its origin in the eruption of the volcano of Algar do Carvão, given the lava from this volcano have drained to the sea reaching the coast from the locality of Serretinha, of Guysborough District until the Port Jew forming an entire area of scorched earth policy is characterised by its black basalt stones of great dimensions mixed with large amounts of slag. To reach the sea this stream of lava gave rise to some bays highlighting-among them the Bay of the dross that was once varadouro Piscatorial, today it is a bathing area with natural swimming pool and equipped area for games.
