How to get to the beach: Port Tazacorte Beach, located at the mouth of Las Angustias ravine, was always a meeting point with
the foreign world since Adelantado Alonso Fernández de Lugo landed in 1492. The port
was also used by the conqueror to arrest the last native king, the chief of
the canton of Aceró (Caldera de Taburiente). Tanausú or Atanausú,
was ambushed and captured, but the brave warrior preferred to
starve to death before being a slave of the Castilians.
Before its fishing activity, the port was also the trading point
of different goods (sugar, wine, tobacco, cochineal, banana,
etcetera). Not to mention its relevant role in the defence of
La Palma against pirates and the English troops attacks, that
intended to conquer the island. Juan Graje's Fortress and San
Miguel's Castle were also important military settlements,
although, sadly, these buildings are missing nowadays.
