These biotopes in the Umia-O Grove Inter-tidal complex create wetlands of international importance for avifauna since this is a resting area for more than 100 bird species during their migratory journeys: waders, sea crows, herons, mallards and many more.For this reasons, this Inter-Tidal complex has been included in the Ramsar Convention (Official Spanish Bulleting 8-5-1990) and has been acknowledged as a Special Bird Proteccion Area in accordance with the European directive 79/409 EEC regarding the conservation of wild birds.
