City of North Vancouver Harbour Deck (In Planning)

Swim Drink Fish and the City of North Vancouver have announced plans for an innovative swimming structure at Waterfront Park in Burrard Inlet - the first of its kind in British Columbia. The planned structure will feature generous, protected swimming areas including an accessible shallow pool, 50-metre swim lanes, diving platforms along with lounging and seating areas throughout. The harbour deck is being made possible through a $16 million donation to Swim Drink Fish from the Weston family, and additional $5 million in capital funding from the City of North Vancouver. This project will create much-needed public space and stand as a powerful example of how thoughtful investment can reclaim urban waterfronts and bring swimmable, inclusive spaces back to city life. The design is in the early conceptual phases to test for feasibility. The City of North Vancouver will lead intergovernmental discussions and community engagement as part of the design process going forward. Construction will begin in 2026 with an expected opening in the spring of 2027. Swim Drink Fish has conducted water quality monitoring and investigations at the site since 2024 and possesses 2 years of data that indicate the site has high water quality suitable for swimming. Swim Drink Fish will continue to monitoring throughout the project development to ensure it continues to satisfy the conditions for Swimmable Waters. This flagship project is being announced alongside the launch of the WAVE Prize – a new Swim Drink Fish-led initiative to increase public access to urban swimmable waters in B.C.
