Corn Creek Wilderness Park is a heavily wooded park on the banks of Corn Creek and the Coosa River. This beautiful and isolated site offers good birding opportunities. A hidden secret in Wetumpka, Corn Creek Park has clear waters, small rapids, a waterfall and lots of shoreline for fishing. If you want to visit this hidden gem, directions can be a little tricky! To get to the road for Corn Creek Park, turn off of US-231 between Bond James Bail Bonds and Rollling Ridge Apartments or follow directions to 8721 US-231 Wetumpka, AL.

Practicing social distancing is still essential. Only go to the beach if you are able to keep 6 feet or 2 meters away from others. Follow the instructions provided by your local health authorities. If your community has asked that you remain indoors and away from others, do so. Spending a day in any crowded place is the worst thing we can do for our most vulnerable right now and will counter our efforts to curb the virus’s spread.

Coosa Riverkeeper staff, interns, and volunteers monitor water quality at sites in this region. Sampling season starts May 27 and ends Labor Day Weekend.

Water at all sites is sampled for E. coli, total coliform, pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, total dissolved solids and conductivity. More in-depth data is viewable at www.CoosaRiver.org/SwimGuide

Coosa Riverkeeper utilizes the standardized state and federal criteria of 235 col/100 ml for collecting and analyzing water samples. Test results are expressed as Most Probable Number (MPN) of E.coli cfu (colony forming units) per 100 ml.

Water samples are collected every Thursday. Results are posted as soon as lab results are available on Friday (typically around noon CT). Results here on Swim Guide indicate E. coli concentrations, further data reporting on other water quality characteristics are published at coosariver.org/swimguide

A beach is marked Green when single sample results are under 126 E.coli / 100 ML water.

A beach is marked Red when the results are equal to or above 126 E.coli / 100 ML water.

A beach is marked Grey when there are no current results or there is no available information.
