The objective of the construction of Sotogrande harbour was to improve and complete the urbanization of Sotogrande, support its development, to which it added the maritime orientation required, whilst maintaining ever present, the vision of maximum quality, tranquillity and family atmosphere.
To this affect, land was obtained on the left bank of the river Guadiaro estuary, where there was a kilometre of beach, of which 600 lineal metres were dedicated to apartments and 400 to the construction of the harbour, to which the protective quay, from the the Levant winds and currents would be constructed.
With regards to the inner marina, this was made possible through a canal which was opened at the back of the harbour wall, dredging of the area to permit the creation of a navigable lagoon, with berths on its banks. Without this marine project, Sotogrande would have remained incomplete, from the perspective of the greater realisation of the urbanization. The land used was of some 542,585 square metres, which would finally provide mooring in 1380 berths, 1426 properties, a hotel and 100 commercial units, boat yard, covered storage for wintering and hard standing areas for the storage and shrink wrap of vessels.
