Pompano Beach was awarded a Blue Wave Beach designation, along with five other Broward County municipalities, by the Clean Beaches Council. This beach offers watersports, sand volleyball, swimming, fishing, boating, kayaking, sailing, a playground, a boardwalk and picnic grounds. Kiteboarding is permitted off of the 16th street beach but is strictly regulated, so obey boundaries or you may get a ticket. Catamarans and sailboards may be launched at N.E. 16th Street and are required to stay 200 yards off the public beach.Or, bring your boogie board instead as you will have unrestricted access to the waves! Lifeguards are on duty from 9 to 5pm daily. No dogs or alcohol on the beach. Restroom facilities, showers, picnic shelters and tables, barbecue grills and children's playground are located on the beach.
The Pompano Beach Pier (222 North Pompano Beach Boulevard) is open 24 hours a day and bait is available in the tackle shop. The pier is approximately 1000 feet in length. Food and beverages can be purchased at the pier. Be on the lookout for warnings re: Portuguese Man-O-Wars and Sea Lice outbreaks caused by juvenile stage jellyfish, sporadically occurring between March and August.
