Corona del Mar State Beach is a popular place for swimmers. The half-mile long sandy beach is framed by cliffs and a rock jetty that forms the east entrance to Newport Harbor. The beach is also popular with surfers and divers (source: CA State Parks). This is a very popular beach for bonfires, remember- alcohol and glass are prohibited, and the beach closes promptly at 10pm. Free parking can be found along the street but the walk down to the beach is steep! Daily parking fee is $15, but if you go in the evening, after 6 or 7pm to use the fire rings parking is free. Downtown Corona del Mar offers exquisite dining and small, quaint shops.
Reminders: There is a 3-day rain advisory after each rain storm, use caution as bacteria levels can increase during this period. The County Environmental Health staff advises swimmers that levels of bacteria can rise significantly in ocean and bay waters adjacent to storm drains, creeks and rivers. Swimmers should avoid coastal waters impacted by discharging storm drains creeks and rivers, and beach users should avoid contact with any runoff on the beach during dry or wet weather conditions. As an extra precaution remain 500 ft away on either side from any outfalls.
Keep your distance from other people.
Practicing social distancing is still essential. Only go to the beach if you are able to keep 6 feet or 2 meters away from others. Follow the instructions provided by your local health authorities. If your community has asked that you remain indoors and away from others, do so. Spending a day in any crowded place is the worst thing we can do for our most vulnerable right now and will counter our efforts to curb the virus’s spread.
