*Santa Barbara County Environmental Health Services advises no swimming for 72 hours following a significant rainfall event.

Public Health Standards:
In California, maximum levels for bacteria are established for recreational waters. Single sample maximum levels are 235 E. coli/100 ml; 61 Enterococcus /100 ml; and 400 fecal coliform/100 ml; and 10,000 total coliform /100 ml. In waters designated for contact recreation, the median fecal coliform concentration based on a minimum of not less than five samples for any 30-day period shall not exceed 50/100 ml, nor shall more than ten percent of total samples during any 30-day period exceed 400/100 ml. Monitoring frequency varies across jurisdictions.
