Grayton Dunes Regional Beach Access is handicap accessible and operated by the Walton County Tourist Development Council. The area began development as a homestead for Army Major Charles T. Gray in 1885. In 1913, W.H. Butler and Van R. Butler acquired land to build a resort. The State assumed ownership of eastern lands in 1967 to create Grayton Beach State Recreation Area and the northern and western bordering parcels in 1985, at the community’s requests. As a result of such actions, this section along the Gulf of Mexico retains much of its natural amenities and alluring properties. Flags advise visitors of surf conditions. No lifeguard is on duty. The access operaties dawn to dusk. Onsite amenities include parking and restrooms. Fishing regulations/licenses may apply. Photo Courtesy of Sam Feltus.
Keep your distance from other people.
Practicing social distancing is still essential. Only go to the beach if you are able to keep 6 feet or 2 meters away from others. Follow the instructions provided by your local health authorities. If your community has asked that you remain indoors and away from others, do so. Spending a day in any crowded place is the worst thing we can do for our most vulnerable right now and will counter our efforts to curb the virus’s spread.
