The original DuPont Bridge began construction 1n 1927. Completed in 1929, the structure was part of the U.S. 98 Coastal Highway Project. The bridge was replaced in 1967, providing a newer passageway for travelers crossing East Bay. The old bridge became a popular site for fishing. Deterioration and storms lead to the old structure's closure and dismantlement beginning in 2005. Parts of the old bridge were used to create a reef that has become a popular scuba diving site. Keep your distance from other people.
Practicing social distancing is still essential. Only go to the beach if you are able to keep 6 feet or 2 meters away from others. Follow the instructions provided by your local health authorities. If your community has asked that you remain indoors and away from others, do so. Spending a day in any crowded place is the worst thing we can do for our most vulnerable right now and will counter our efforts to curb the virus’s spread.
