Hidden Springs Campground is located on the Avenue of the Giants, a mile south of Myers Flat. The campground is open from early May through Labor Day weekend. Two hiking trails are available near the campground; one trail leaves from the campground and the other is just across the Avenue of the Giants and leads to a great swimming hole on the South Fork of the Eel River.

Beach water is tested weekly from April to October by the Humboldt County Environmental Monitoring Division. Results are posted online, and Humboldt Baykeeper updates the beach status information in Swim Guide as it is made available.

In California, maximum levels for bacteria are established for recreational waters. Single sample maximum levels are 235 E. coli/100 ml; 61 Enterococcus /100 ml; and 400 fecal coliform/100 ml; and 10,000 total coliform /100 ml. In waters designated for contact recreation, the median fecal coliform concentration based on a minimum of not less than five samples for any 30-day period shall not exceed 50/100 ml, nor shall more than ten percent of total samples during any 30-day period exceed 400/100 ml. Monitoring frequency varies across jurisdictions.
