This is the main beach at Elk Neck State Park, a park overlooking Chesapeake Bay. This sandy beach is a great spot for a swim. The water is shallow but swim at your own risk as there are no lifeguards on duty. You can also enjoy a picnic at one of the beach's many picnic areas (some have grills). For your convenience, there is also a restroom, showers, and a park store (open during the summer season). After your picnic, launch your canoe or kayak from the boat launch area just north of the beach or relax in the shade. Fishing is not permitted at the swimming area. Pets are only permitted before Memorial Day and after Labor Day.
Keep your distance from other people.
Practicing social distancing is still essential. Only go to the beach if you are able to keep 6 feet or 2 meters away from others. Follow the instructions provided by your local health authorities. If your community has asked that you remain indoors and away from others, do so. Spending a day in any crowded place is the worst thing we can do for our most vulnerable right now and will counter our efforts to curb the virus’s spread.
