Assateague State Park swimming beach, with lifeguards Memorial Day to Labor Day. Hot water showers, bathhouse and full service Concession Stand also on site. Bathhouse and concession stand is ADA accessible, with a boardwalk to the top of the dune for beach access.
Daily parking fee at park entrance, senior citizen discount passes available.
You can expect a visit on the beach by the famous Assateague ponies, but keep your distance. They kick and bite so please don't feed them - just watch from a safe distance!
Assateague Island was once targeted for major development (4,000+ development lots!) and a citizen group The Committee To Preserve Assateague Island was founded by Judith Johnson and others to advocate for the preservation of the island as a National Seashore. Obviously they succeeded and today the Committee is known as 'Assateague Coastal Trust.' ACT hosts the local Waterkeeper program - the Assateague Coastkeeper. Learn more at www.ActForBays.org
A state run campground is located here, early reservations are a must in the summer months.

Keep your distance from other people.
Practicing social distancing is still essential. Only go to the beach if you are able to keep 6 feet or 2 meters away from others. Follow the instructions provided by your local health authorities. If your community has asked that you remain indoors and away from others, do so. Spending a day in any crowded place is the worst thing we can do for our most vulnerable right now and will counter our efforts to curb the virus’s spread.
