Dominion Beach Provincial Park has a boardwalk for strolling along the seaside, a supervised swimming area, washrooms, showers, and changerooms. The beach is known for its historic value, as it used to have a railroad, shipping pier and a hotel with a player piano. The beach has a gentle slope, but in harsh winds the surf conditions can become dangerous. There are many stories about the storms that Dominion beach has weathered - the tsunami that uncovered a cache of Jamaican rum or the hurricane that swept away the beach hotel; as it floated away, the player piano was playing "Over the Waves". To prevent the natural settings from getting battered during the storms today, the provincial govenrment constructed a berm on the beach to protect it from wind and waves in spring 2013.
Keep your distance from other people.
Practicing social distancing is still essential. Only go to the beach if you are able to keep 6 feet or 2 meters away from others. Follow the instructions provided by your local health authorities. If your community has asked that you remain indoors and away from others, do so. Spending a day in any crowded place is the worst thing we can do for our most vulnerable right now and will counter our efforts to curb the virus’s spread.
