Rissers has been a popular beach with locals for a long time, and was turned into a provincial park in 1973 to protect the eroding sand dunes. The beach has two campgrounds nearby, one right on the beach, and the other across the road, both ideal for a family vacation. The beach has an inland marsh with a boardwalk going around it and an interpretive center, so visitors can explore and learn about their natural surroundings. Close to the park, take a chance to learn about traditional Nova Scotia rug hooking at the Crousetown Cottage. The beach has a canteen and a swimming area with a lifeguard. The campground has showers, washrooms, and parking.
Rissers Beach is tested twice per summer.
Keep your distance from other people.
Practicing social distancing is still essential. Only go to the beach if you are able to keep 6 feet or 2 meters away from others. Follow the instructions provided by your local health authorities. If your community has asked that you remain indoors and away from others, do so. Spending a day in any crowded place is the worst thing we can do for our most vulnerable right now and will counter our efforts to curb the virus’s spread.
