El Faro is located across from Border Field State Park in Imperial Beach, CA on the southern flank of the U.S./Mexico border fence in Playas de Tijuana. The lighthouse which marks this spot has been used as a maritime signal for over 30 years.
At the foot of the lighthouse lies a community native plant garden straddling the border. This Binational Garden, was planted and is maintained by a network of environmental organizations from both countries. The access avenue is ridden with small shops and restaurants, which make this the most crowded portion of the beach during weekends and vacation periods.
Keep your distance from other people.
Practicing social distancing is still essential. Only go to the beach if you are able to keep 6 feet or 2 meters away from others. Follow the instructions provided by your local health authorities. If your community has asked that you remain indoors and away from others, do so. Spending a day in any crowded place is the worst thing we can do for our most vulnerable right now and will counter our efforts to curb the virus’s spread.
