Swimming, fishing, kayaking and paddleboarding are common activities at Manu Bay. The bay aslo offers good surf year round but is best when tides are low. Various surfing events are held here attracting everyone from locals to international visitors. Manu Bay was featured in the the movies The Endless Summer and Last Paradise.

The Waikato Regional Council historically gathered samples at coastal sites in order have a representative graph of the quality of recreational sites. Data was collected on the West Coast in 2008-2009 and on the Coromandel Peninsula in 2007-2008.

Sites are not currently monitored and therefore there are no water quality updates for Waikato swim sites in Swim Guide.

Swimming is not recommended within 48 hours after a heavy rainfall or around storm water outfalls and at stream mouths.
