About Rosy Mound Recreation Area
Ever wanted to see a classic example of a Great Lakes dune system? Then Rosy Mound Recreational Area is just the place to visit. This 164-acre natural area, dedicated in 2004, is one of the state’s newest tract of protected dunes, a $1.1 million effort by Ottawa County to save the sensitive ecosystem and protect it from future visitors. This beach is perfect for those who enjoy a good hike, as the walk from the parking lot to the water’s edge is 0.7 miles and includes a 1,000 foot stair climb up and over the dunes. But the challenge is well worth it – once you’ve reached the top of the stairs, you’ll enjoy breathtaking scenic views of the dunes, white pine stands and expansive beach from the observation deck. This park offers numerous amenities including interpretive signs along trails, picnic tables and grills, a unique shade canopy near beach, modern restrooms near parking area and rustic restrooms near beach and a paved parking area (fee). Barrier free facilities include parking lot restrooms, picnic tables and grills. Some trails are wheelchair accessible and all stairs are designed to be ADA accessible No lifeguards present. Dogs are not permitted. Water quality is tested 4 times per week.
