SOURCE INFORMATION

Coosa Riverkeeper staff, interns, and volunteers monitor water quality at sites in this region. Sampling season starts May 5th and ends Labor Day Weekend (September 1st).

Water at all sites is sampled for E. coli, total coliform, pH, temperature, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, total dissolved solids and conductivity. More in-depth data is viewable at www.CoosaRiver.org/SwimGuide

Coosa Riverkeeper utilizes the standardized state and federal criteria of 235 col/100 ml for collecting and analyzing water samples. Test results are expressed as Most Probable Number (MPN) of E.coli cfu (colony forming units) per 100 ml.

Water samples are collected every Thursday from April 20-August 31. Results are posted as soon as lab results are available on Friday (typically around noon CT). Results here on Swim Guide indicate E. coli concentrations, further data reporting on other water quality characteristics are published at coosariver.org/swimguide

A beach is marked Green when single sample results are under 235 E.coli / 100 ML water.

A beach is marked Red when the results are equal to or above 235 E.coli / 100 ML water.

A beach is marked Grey when there are no current results or there is no available information.
