PK's Beach is named after Prince Kuhio, and is across the street from Prince Kuhio Park. The park monuments the prince's birthplace, and is also home to an ancient saltwater fish pond. Salt water still circulates under the road so fish may come and go from the pond as they please. Across the street is a favorite and frequented local surf spot on the south shore of Kauai, where waves here are long and can be ridden all the way to Lawai. When the water is calm, this rocky shore is a great place for snorkeling and spotting sea turtles. The beach itself is narrow, but is a great spot to watch surfers catch some waves. There is free public roadside parking. Amenities are down the road at Lawai beach.
Keep your distance from other people.
Practicing social distancing is essential right now. Follow the advice of the health experts. If your community has asked that you remain indoors and away from others, do so. Heading to the beach should only be considered an option if social distancing practices can be followed. Spending a day in any crowded place is the worst thing we can do for our most vulnerable right now and will counter the efforts to curb the virus’ spread.
