Cardiff State Beach is located just west of Coast Highway and has a small sized, paid parking lot. Street parking nearby on Coast Highway is free. There are bathrooms, showers and an outdoor hand washing station, and one lifeguard tower that is often staffed. The San Elijo Lagoon enters the beach at the north end, and rip currents sometimes occur when the tide is changing from high to low. This spot is very popular for beginning and experienced surfers. Crowds can be heavy, especially during the summer months, but limited parking does limit crowds most of the year. Dogs are allowed on leash.
Keep your distance from other people.
Practicing social distancing is still essential. Only go to the beach if you are able to keep 6 feet or 2 meters away from others. Follow the instructions provided by your local health authorities. If your community has asked that you remain indoors and away from others, do so. Spending a day in any crowded place is the worst thing we can do for our most vulnerable right now and will counter our efforts to curb the virus’s spread.
