About Himmarshee Canal in Fort Lauderdale
The Himmarshee Canal was a tributary of the New River, historically a major artery in and out of the Everglades. The word translates to “new water” or “new river.” The Himmarshee Canal now starts near US1/Federal Highway and traverses the neighborhoods of Colee Hammock and Beverly Heights as it flows under Las Olas Blvd and out to the New River.
**Water samples taken within 48 hours of a rainfall event for inland coastal waterways are likely to exceed bacterial standards due to urban runoff.**
