Australian Capital Territory Government – Transport Canberra & City Services

The Australian Capital Territory Government (ACT) is a self-governing territory in the south east of Australia. Canberra is the only city in the ACT, and is also the capital city of Australia. The ACT Government’s Transport Canberra & City Services monitors the environmental status of Canberra’s lakes, ponds and rivers and advises changes in water quality conditions in relation to bacteria, Blue-green algae and other potentially hazardous conditions, such as flooding. The water quality conditions in Lake Ginninderra, Lake Tuggeranong, the Molonglo River, Molonglo Reach, the Murrumbidgee River, Paddy’s River and the Cotter River are monitored. The National Capital Authority is responsible for monitoring Lake Burley Griffin.

General water quality parameters are also monitored in the lakes, rivers and ponds to pick up long term trends. The ACT Guidelines for Recreational Water Quality, issued in October 2014, provide a framework for the management of recreational activity in ACT lakes and rivers.

Parks and Territory Services is committed to providing a wide range of land and open space management services to the residents of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) and visitors, and deliver a quality service that is value for money and environmentally sustainable within available resources.
