Plakes beach is located on the northeastern part of Volos bay and next to Anavros beach, 1.5 km from the centre of Volos.
The beach is awarded the Blue Flag, the most recognizable international eco-label for coastlines.
The beach is accessible on foot, by bicycle and by car.
Plakes beach is the coastal part of a sea inlet and is 50 m long, 5 m wide and southwest oriented.
The coastal zone and the seabed are pebbled; there are umbrellas, cabins and lifeguards.
At Plakes beach the vegetation is patchy with eucalyptus and pine trees.
It is a busy beach with two Clubs: Club of Winter Swimmers "Iason" and Volos and Argonauts Nautical Club.
Above the Plakes beach is the Goritsa hill, a favourite hill for hiking and admiring the view. At the foot of the hill and beside the Plakes beach is the caved church of Panagia Trypa-Goritsa, carved into a rock.
Within walking distance is the beautiful coastal seaside of Anavros Park, the Hospital of Volos and next to it the church of the Holy Trinity.
Naturally, as Plakes beach is so close to the city of Volos the tourist can easily and quickly use all the services provided by a modern city and visit all its sights and museums.
