Serraiki

The sandy beach of Serraiki akti (1km. long and 70-120 m. wide) belongs to the Municipality of Agios Georgios the district of Thessaloniki, a modern Municipality with tourist interest. It is a tourist and a residential region and is situated on the 80th km on the main highway of Thessaloniki-Kavala and is only an hour away from the centers of Thessaloniki, Serres, Kavala and Drama.

In the region operate small tourist units, rooms to let and picturesque guesthouses for unheeding and comfortable stay. The accommodation of the visitors is performed from many commercial shops. Well-known are the picturesque taverns, fish taverns that satisfy every 'concern' and the nightlife at clubs and cafès.

The current infrastructure gives the opportunity to the visitor to enjoy water sports like sailing, beach-volley, water skiing and many more, while the fishing sanctuary accommodates fishing boats owners. There are many car, motorbike and bike rental offices.During the year, the Municipality of Agios Georgios, organizes a wide range of environmental and educational activities for the tourist growth of the region, the environmental education of citizens and the protection of the environment like:

- Seminars with environmental and tourist issues

- Beach cleaning excursions

- Circulations of leaflets for the sensitization of the citizens

- Celebrations, every year, for the Day of the Environment

- Planting of trees with the participation of students

- Seminars, speeches and picture galleries at schools for the protection of the environment.

At the beach there are many agrarian plants while the coast has many beautiful parks with different kinds of trees and bushes.

Also, the Natural Recreation Park, an oasis of green, which is situated at Asprovalta, accommodates many homebred animals and birds.
