Prainha Municipal Natural Park (PNM) is located in the municipality of Rio de Janeiro and consists of approximately 126.30 acres. It is located on Estado da Guanabara Avenue, Prainha-Grumari sub-district, district of Recreio dos Bandeirantes. It is inserted in Prainha Environmental Protection Area (APA), which has an area of approximately 157.08 hectacres, facing and respectively limited by respectively to the South by the APA Waterfront, to the North by an imaginary straight line drawn to the left and right from the top of Morro da Boa Vista, to the West by the APA Grumari, and to the East by Recreio.
The park is surrounded by the summits of Caeté and Boa Vista mountains and also Pedra dos Cabritos mountain. The Natural Protected Area (MACs) can be found at this site, which has been named after Prainha beach, or simply Prainha. The park comprises sandbar/sandbank ecosystems, rocky coast, sandy beach, wetlands and submontane rainforest.
PNM Prainha and APA Prainha are under the guardianship of the Rio de Janeiro Municipal Environment Office - SMAC, and the Management of Protected Areas Maintenance (GUC) is responsible for, specifically, the coordination of the management of these units, according to the Environmental Management Manual for Municipal Parks.
