Honeymoon Island is accessed by driving from Dunedin across the Dunedin Causeway. This is a great beach for nature lovers because the island has some of the natural beauty of Florida preserved. This state park preserves natural beaches, mangroves, tidal flats, and one of the few remaining virgin slash pine stands in Florida. The island is also the home of ospreys and other shorebirds.
The island has 4 miles of beach and 2.5 miles of walking trail. Visitors can spend time on the beach, fishing, and picnicking. There are picnic pavilions, kayaks, and beach chairs for rent as well as a small cafe. Animal lovers will be happy to hear that there is a dog beach and dogs are allowed on some of the nature trails.
Keep your distance from other people.
Practicing social distancing is still essential. Only go to the beach if you are able to keep 6 feet or 2 meters away from others. Follow the instructions provided by your local health authorities. If your community has asked that you remain indoors and away from others, do so. Spending a day in any crowded place is the worst thing we can do for our most vulnerable right now and will counter our efforts to curb the virus’s spread.
