The Resort Village of Cochin Public Beach is nestled between the scenic Murray and Jackfish Lakes on Highway 4 North. The creek that connects the two lakes was once an important route for First Nations people, fur traders, and missionaries. The name ‘Cochin’ comes from a Catholic missionary, Father Louis Cochin, who served the area from 1884 until his death in 1927.
The natural sandy beach is ideal for relaxation and adventure. Swimming, boating and fishing for walleye and northern pike are all popular attractions on the lake.
Keep your distance from other people.
Practicing social distancing is still essential. Only go to the beach if you are able to keep 6 feet or 2 meters away from others. Follow the instructions provided by your local health authorities. If your community has asked that you remain indoors and away from others, do so. Spending a day in any crowded place is the worst thing we can do for our most vulnerable right now and will counter our efforts to curb the virus’s spread.
