Fraser Basin Council Society

The Fraser Basin Council (FBC) is a charitable non-profit organization that brings people together to advance sustainability in the Fraser River Basin and throughout B.C. We are honoured to provide secretariat and other support to the Fraser Valley Illegal Dumping Alliance (FVIDA), a grassroots coalitions of concerned citizens, local governments, business and others, whose volunteers are dedicated to finding solutions to the issue of ongoing illegal dumping in Fraser Valley region.
The main goal of FVIDA is to raise awareness and inspire behavioural changes to curb illegal dumping. We do this through a combination of large cleanup events, small ‘hot-spot’ cleanups, education outreach, and social media campaigns.
Since officially launching in 2015, FVIDA’s efforts have removed upwards of 140 tonnes of illegally dumped waste from sensitive, salmon-rearing freshwater habitat in the central Fraser Valley, and contributed to a 60% increase in reporting of dumping to Conservation Officers. In 2019, FVIDA’s annual Gill Road Cleanup drew more than 700 volunteers, who collected 6.5 tonnes in one day.
FVIDA continues to educate communities on the negative impacts of pallet burning and abandoned garbage on the environment. We aim to change behaviour and to leave a healthy environment for the next generation.
